My Philosophy
I think sports teaches team work, setting goals and reaching goals, builds confidence, good for healthy living, and so much more. I think these positive traits can be built right with in the teaching structure of soccer.
I started playing soccer when i was five years old. It became a huge part of my life, as i played on traveling soccer teams, in tournaments, for my JV team, and varsity. I trained at Rochester College also. I started on varsity, and loved the game. I have my E coaching license through MSYSA, and I am continuously practicing to become better. I have coached at PSG soccer academy in Macomb, Michigan, and at Lil Kickers, in Farmington, MI. I have an associates degree in early childhood education, and i am transferring to Wayne State's school of social work. I love working with kids, i love sports, and i have a lot of experience playing soccer and working with children. I look forward to meeting you guys and training your child(ren). What you will see
It is based off of age, as i coach as young as 4 years old. for the 4-7 years olds it is strictly fun. I just create fun learning games that will keep your child interested and active. I do different creative things to get the child to practice. we will stretch, and i will say reach way up high and touch the sky, then reach way down low and touch your toes. and i will gradually get faster as we stretch. At they age they will learn toe touches, passing with the inside of their foot, to shoot with their laces, to stop the ball with the top of their foot, and to love the game. As i work with children who are older i communicate effectively to help develop/create a love for the game of soccer. i will teach them how to juggle more effectively, and to do different moves such as heel flicks, and scissor kicks. I have cones to practice dribble with yr head up, and using both feet. we will work on the four major core of soccer (technical, tactical, physical, and endurance) i will show them how to do defensive pressure and cut off angles on defense, as well as educate. As i physically teach them how to do it. I will explain why to cut off the inside and use the out of bounds line as a defender. (example)
My Purpose
My name is Eric Santana, I have been working with children for three years, plus i have been around children my whole life. Over time i have built up my career in working with children. I wanted to present my accomplishments and major highlights of myself in regards to my Early Childhood education career. I put this together so you can see the work i have done, and the work i intend on doing. I have been collecting a lot of different experiences and materialistic items that i wanted to put all together to present to anyone who may be curious to know about me, Mr. Eric.
I have numerous visuals through this portfolio. They range from all background checks and commitment to my career. I have a passion for soccer as well, and specifically caching young children the game of soccer. My educational background is in my portfolio,
All of this put together creates a visual of my goals that i have in life. I want to be someone that can positively impact children, and make things better for them in any way i can. I have many goals from using soccer as a basis to create a positive outlook for children to working at agencies that help out community. This portfolio gives a visual of what i have been doing, and what i want to do in the future.
Thank You for taking the time to look at my portfolio,
Eric Santana

Extended Philosophy
As a child i missed out on a lot of strong adult support. Not having certain important adults around made me feel a sort of lacking internal feeling. This made me really realize How important it is to have important positive adults around. It doesn't matter if it is males or females, it's just something that is required to help children develop successfully. Things were tough for me as a child so if i would have had some more truly caring positive adults around it would have really helped. I also read a article where there were a group of children who had risk factors. Some of the children grew up to be great adults, while others grew up to end up in jail and struggle. The difference they found after studying the group was the ones who grew up to live adequate lives had someone who loved them greatly. The ones who ended up in jail didn't have anyone close to them.
I specifically want to work with at-risk children. I want to be there for children who have struggles so i can help them develop into successful adults. I'd like to help in any center, ranging from detention homes, group homes, counseling, or any setting where i can help children. I feel many children are born into good settings and end up having the mentality of doing good through out life, while many other children are born into settings that have a lot of risk-factors. Risk-factors such as no parents, single parent house holds, low poverty, etc. and when you are born into a setting like this you can have a bad perception of the world. You may believe that many people are against you and not with you. I want to be someone who makes a child believe that i am on their side and i am there for them.
I don't believe in direct dictatorship, where you dictate and tell children what to do. I feel that working on a child's behavior and confidence comes before working on school work or lessons. I don't think it is right to force children just to sit down and be quiet so you can go further, as a teacher, with you lesson plans. I think helping children build their character as an individual and becoming a better person is more important than lesson plans and teaching letters. If you can guide a child to believe in their selves and want to do good, studying habits and listening skills will be something children will want to do. Especially if you can help a child at a young age have a positive outlook and self-confidence by the time they get older and our in middle school and higher grades, they will have great habits built with-in their selves and they will like school. If you just focus on the day at hand, and just try to make children be quiet so you can continue your lesson you are not teaching children anything. One, because when a child wants to do things other than learn (what we would consider misbehaving) they are in no position to learn. All they are doing is getting mad, because they are continuously just being told to be quiet or they are just so focused on not talking they aren't even paying attention. We have to teach children to love their selves and to want to do a good job before we teach them how to count or what shapes are.
My two greatest passions are sports and children. I want to combine the two to help children to develop a positive future. Something great about sports is that, sports teaches teamwork, confidence, reaching goals (such as how to work together to score a goal, which can be a trait they can use in life... to achieve), build drive, and to work hard. I have an aspiration to one day create a soccer/sports program. Not a competitive soccer program that teaches skills and to create the best athlete, but a program that helps build children's character and make them more positive people. once again it would be a program directed to children who may have risk factors. I want to give them something fun to turn to. I would want to make this program some what like a motivational inspiring venture. This would be set up where i would have people who have accomplished things... such as celebrities, athletes, people who came from tough child would and ended up doing great things, etc. I would encourage and motivate these children, children of all ages from like age 5-17. I would hold sport classes, where the kids would have fun, and there would be a curriculum that helped develop character building and confidence, not competition. Through this program i would get all the information and referrals to more advanced training programs for the children who would want more skill building. This would give children hope, and would guide them to get into connections with sport training programs where they could really benefit from. The point of the program would be to help build all of the characteristics that i have talked about thus far, plus the purpose would be to give children alternatives to turn to that are positive. So instead of turning to negative people and things you can find out in some of the struggling communities out there, they can turn to my program or just sports in general. the goal would be to redirect problem behaviors.
I don't think children or anyone benefit from negative consequences, nor punishments that are built within the justice system. I think they are way to many other ways to redirect behavior. I may not be able to change the justice system over night, but I can get into the classroom as a teacher and at least work directly with the children to help them, before they become older and get involved with the justice system. As for children who are doing great, i want to just be another positive person for them that they can look up to.
